What If the Yellowstone Volcano Erupted Tomorrow?
Located in the United States, one of the world's largest volcanoes is gearing up to explode. It's known as the Yellowstone Volcano, and it's not just any regular volcano. Instead, it's a supervolcano! If Yellowstone decided to erupt, the results would be devastating. But just how bad would they be? Is there anything we could do to stop it? US panic:(Dec 28) Yellowstone volcano is active again, ready to erupt at any moment, this is terible
Several scientific branches have been made sexy by supplying novel, tangible applications such as drug development or automation. Geology is not one of them. Yet so remarkable is Yellowstone's feature encounter that anyone who pays attention need not come up with a ruse to rediscover it; it does it itself.
The park's 10,000-plus hydrothermal features - the largest concentration anywhere in the world - from geysers to travertine terraces to fumaroles to mud pots to hot springs. Old Faithful's regularity allows you to take it for granted by definition, but it's actually the chaos of Steamboat and Yellowstone's other thermal features that more effectively remind visitors that they are walking atop an active volcano.

Nothing You Could Do (Des 27) Yellowstone Warning as Mega Volcano 'Gearing Up to Explode'
Yellowstone warning as mega volcano 'gearing up to explode': 'Nothing you could do'.
YELLOWSTONE is one of the biggest volcanoes in the world, with scientists convinced that it is "gearing up to explode" one day in the "near future". The volcano, just one example of a handful of the world's 'supervolcanoes', has experienced three eruptions in the last three million years. The last came 630,000 years ago, and was 1,000 times bigger than the Mount St Helens eruption in 1980 — an event which caused more than $1billion (£741million) in damage.
During Yellowstone's last eruption, the large volume of material caused the ground to collapse, creating a depression now known as the caldera, which is 55 km by 80 km wide. The next eruption is expected to have catastrophic worldwide effects, and ...

Yellowstone, Wyoming. In spring 2003, strange things began happening in America's most famous national park. The tallest geyser in the world, which can go 50 years without erupting, burst into life. Spraying columns of superheated water, 100s of feet into the air. There were new cracks in the ground, the ground heated up to the point where the National Park Service had to close some trails. Not long after, a group of bison collapsed and died, victims of poisonous fumes from below the ground. Satellite pictures revealed that something ominous was happening beneath the earth. On the internet, unfounded rumours spread that a super volcano, an eruption so large, that it only occurs on average every 700,000 years, was about to blow. The...

------
The November 2021 YVO Yellowstone Volcano update comes to you from a very snowy Norris Geyser Basin with a story about Porkchop Geyser’s 1989 explosion.
Porkchop Geyser was named in the 1960s because it had a shape that looked a lot like a pork chop. In the 1970s to 1980s, it started having intermittent geyser eruptions, becoming more and more active. On September 5, 1989, Porkchop Geyser exploded. The vent for the geyser became so constricted that its pressure increased and it blew up. Rocks were thrown 200 feet from geyser and are visible around the geyser today. A lot of people witnessed the hydrothermal explosion, and the potential hazard is one of the reasons thermal basins are carefully monitored....

The next eruption is expected to have catastrophic worldwide effects, and was explored during What If's short documentary, 'What If the Yellowstone Volcano Erupted Tomorrow?'.
The narrator noted: "Right now, in the US, one of the world's largest volcanoes is gearing up to explode. "If Yellowstone decided to erupt, the results would be devastating. "It has erupted three times in the past three million years which has led some people to wonder whether we should be worried about another eruption in the near future.
"But if the eruption took place tomorrow and you lived in North America, there would be virtually nothing you could do to prepare."
In geological and volcanic terms, "near future" can mean hundreds of thousands of years away. However, the documentary went on to look at the potential lava output, noting that Yellowstone would likely produce little in the way of lava flows.

These things happen, you can look at the earth and see the scars. They happen, and they're going to happen again.
A million times more powerful than Hiroshima, super volcanoes are real events. Over 20 have been recorded in the history of the earth and over half of these happened in the USA. For the last 30 years scientists have been investigating where the next super volcano could erupt. Their research has revealed that an active super volcano exists under Yellowstone National Park. Naked Science follows these scientists and investigates the vital question, if the Yellowstone Caldera erupted today, could we survive? This documentary includes a Yellowstone timeline of past eruptions, how Yellowstone would affect the world, and what impact will it be for the United States.

A lot of people witnessed the hydrothermal explosion, and the potential hazard is one of the reasons thermal basins are carefully monitored. But since 1989, Porkchop's been a relatively calm pool.
During the month of October, seismicity in Yellowstone was at background levels. The University of Utah Seismograph Stations, which is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Yellowstone seismic network, located 267 earthquakes in the region. The largest was a magnitude 2.6, located just to the east of the Norris Geyser Basin. There were three swarms in the region, one north of the Old Faithful area, one east of Norris, and one northeast of West Yellowstone, Montana.
For deformation, there is a downward trend (subsidence) of several centimeters or about an inch per year that has been recorded at the White Lake GPS station over the past two years; there are pauses in subsidence during the summer caused by seasonal groundwater recharge. The same is true at the Old Faithful continuous GPS site. In the Norris Geyser Basin, it appears that the area may be returning to a period of uplift, after a few years of no deformation.
At Steamboat Geyser, there were two water eruptions, on October 13 and 25, for a total of 17 eruptions this year.
